WMHA is excited to announce it is hiring for a newly created position - Director of Hockey Operations.


POSITION: Director of Hockey Operations

REPORTS TO: WMHA Executive Board

SUPERVISES: TBD

POSITION TYPE: Full Time; Year-Round (Non-Voting Position)

PURPOSE: The Director of Hockey Operations is responsible for planning and implementation of activities related to all association operations and betterment of programs that benefit the WMHA membership.

STARTING SALARY RANGE:  $60-70K dependent on experience / ability

JOB DESCRIPTION

Operations:

  • Oversee administrator positions and coordinate as required: registrations and team planning, team naming convention, Coordinate and process management of pre-season skates and evaluations, Process management in conjunction with AA administrator during AA tryout and team formation, coach and manager meeting coordination, affiliated player program and process management, coach and player feedback process management.
  • Oversee the provincial teams and manage process as required.
  • Be the home tournament coordinator liaison and be responsible for the purchase of trophies and awards for tournaments.
  • Application and interpretation of WMHA Policies and Bylaws.
  • Coordinate annual review of WMHA Policies and Bylaws and WMHA programs and make recommendation to President to bring forward to WMHA Executive.
  • Develop seasonal plan of all operational activities.
  • Work with WMHA Referee-in-Chief on development, mentorship, and supervision programs for the betterment of officiating within WMHA and interlock communities.
  • Coordinate with all Divisions to ensure that pre-season program meetings occur, and that Administrators are kept aware of happenings within their respective divisions.
  • Assist other WMHA staff where required in operational areas.
  • Oversee day to day league operations in terms of roster checking, affiliation policy adherence and discipline/suspensions.
  • In Consult with the board , oversee any employees of the organization (if applicable). This includes: interviewing and hiring process, supervision, processing employee vacation and leave requests, managing employee relations, evaluations, wage reviews and other topics related to organization staff.
  • Be responsible for management and maintaining the non-profit entity.
  • Collaborate with WMHA Executive Board to: suspend any team, player, team official, member or referee for unbecoming conduct on or off the ice, abusive language to any of the officials, or for failure to comply with the corporation constitution, by-laws and regulations pending review of the incident by the discipline committee.

Player, Goaltender & Officials Development:

  • Work with Hockey Sask and WMHA Player Development to set up Hockey Sask development opportunities within WMHA such as PD Development Days.
  • Support Divisions with their development programming to ensure duplication does not occur.
  • Work with Hockey Sask staff and the WMHA Referee-in-Chief to arrange and book referee clinics, referee training days and any referee special events.

Coach Development:

  • Provide leadership and direction to WMHA Divisions in terms of coach recruitment, coach selection and coach retention.
  • Work with Hockey Sask Coaching Development and WMHA Player Development to ensure WMHA-hosted coaching clinics are set up to the best interests of WMHA.
  • Provide support to WMHA Divisions to ensure that Divisions are compliant with key coaching requirements and deadlines around certification and criminal record checks.

 

Other Related Duties:

  • Attendance at WMHA Board and Annual meetings where required, pre-season Age Group meetings and any other meetings that may require information or support.
  • Providing social media updates on behalf of WMHA (X, Instagram, Facebook)
  • Provide support and attend WMHA events, where necessary, as required by the President.
  • Organize the year-end awards event.
  • Oversee and coordinate the 4on4 program with the Events and Promotions Coordinator.
  • Other duties as requested by the President.

Qualifications:

  • Able to present themself professionally and communicate appropriately.
  • Be an initiative-taker with strong organizational skills and able to manage multiple tasks with tight deadlines in some instances.
  • Ability to manage conflict.
  • Possess a business background or knowledge of sports administration including budgeting.
  • Experience as a hockey coach will be considered an asset.
  • A member of good standing within WMHA
  • Ability and experience collaborating with volunteers with an ability to create and maintain successful relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently while managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
  • Have a strong proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail, and Outlook. 
  • Experience with maintaining and keeping websites current and accurate.
  • Experience working with various social media apps (X, Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
  • Comply with requirement to supply a Criminal Record Check and confirm that no conflicts of interest exist.
