U7 INTRODUCTION and Preseason skate information - 2024-25

Parents, welcome to the 2024/2025 U7 hockey season!

Please take a quick moment to review this document; it will provide you with a brief outlook towards the new season as well as the information on the upcoming preseason skates.

The Warman Minor Hockey Association (WMHA) is very proud of the work that has gone into developing its hockey programs over the years.  These programs serve as the foundation of the success that Warman Minor Hockey has experienced.

The goal of the U7 Age Division is to make children's first contact with hockey a safe and positive experience.  It's a structured, learn-to-play hockey program designed to introduce beginners to the game's basic skills. The U7 Program will promote WMHA policy of providing fun and enjoyment while at the same time stressing the values and appreciation of improved skating and hockey skills.  U7 parents should expect the season to be primarily about skill development and fun through practice and less focus on games.

The U7 program will enable participants to become contributing members of a team effort, develop self-confidence, and experience a sense of personal achievement. These goals are achieved in an atmosphere of fun and fair play.

See you at the rink!

PRESEASON SKATE INTRODUCTION

WMHA’s preseason skates for U7 are a chance for all players to get on the ice prior to the season.  The preseason skate sessions that your child will participate in will be an introduction to the basics of skating, balancing, stopping, etc and many of the skills may be initially taught without the use of hockey sticks.  These sessions will all be 45-minutes in length.

Parents/Guardians:
-    We will be needing parents out on the ice for all preseason skate sessions; if you are willing to help, please email the U7 Administrator.  U7@warmanwildcats.com

Equipment Guidelines:
-    Full hockey gear must be worn by all players, including neck guards
-    Please bring your own jersey to wear

U7 Evaluation Process

As we wrap up our preseason skates, it will be time to begin the evaluation process for our teams. All 5 and 6 year-old players will be attending the evaluation sessions, with U7 players being split into Advanced and Beginner teams.

For U7, the number of Advanced teams will be determined by the skill level of the group and the number of interested players, with a maximum of 2 teams. The remaining players will be placed on Beginner teams to ensure equal skilled teams for all. All 4-year-old players will take part in the evaluation process and will be placed on beginner teams.

Please note that players selected for the Advanced U7 team(s) will primarily consist of players with previous hockey experience who are proficient on skates.

Thank you for your cooperation and support as we work to create the best possible hockey experience for all of our players.

FORMING TEAMS

A few days after the evaluation sessions are completed, coaches will be selected and players will be placed on a team through a draft process to ensure all ten teams are selected as uniform as possible within their respective level.  Once the teams have been selected, you will be contacted by your coach as to when your team will start their practices.
